While I have often questioned why the VA, or for that matter, any branch of the government, needs to spend the taxpayer's money on a Public Affairs Office to help promote its image in the media, the reality of the situation is that the VA has a huge Public Affairs effort which is designed to obtain favorable coverage in the media for its programs; so it should not surprise anyone that the VA has obtained overwhelmingly positive coverage for its VISTA CPRS program from many well regarded publications. In 2006 Fortune Magazine wrote an article which boldly proclaimed in its title Technology has transformed the VA-Veterans' hospitals used to be a byword for second rate care or worse. Now, thanks to technology, they're national leaders in efficiency and quality. 2 Even the Washington Post, a publication that has long been recognized for its hard hitting investigations, has given VISTA CPRS glowing coverage: Cheryl Rye sued Miner Jerome Holmes DDS and his dental office on behalf of her daughter, Katie in Harris County Court.

The biggest problem was then to arise and that was the oral surgeon. I was brought into the room by an assistant who offered me to sit and did her work of covering me. Example: I said I am very nervous. He replied Everyone is nervous and then placed a clipboard with consent into my lap and said sign here. He then walked out and repeated this a couple of more times. He asked who is here with you. I replied I have someone coming in to pick me up. Internet use by physicians and patients has become very popular in Japan. Fifty percent of physicians use the Internet to search for medical and other information. Over the past year, 22% of patients used the Internet to obtain medical information. Because there are no restrictions within Japan on using Web sites to advertise medical treatment, information can be freely sent out, and over the past two or three years this practice has increased dramatically. Internet medical information provides information about illnesses and medications, and it helps improve the quality of life of patients and families. Yet, depending on the content of the information provided and the way this information is used, there is a potential negative side as well. On principle, users are responsible for the way information is used, but there is a need for information providers to consider users' safety and to make the information effective for use. Because there is no absolute standard for evaluating the value of medical information, it is necessary to establish a system that opens a dialogue with society and that continuously accumulates high-quality information through the collection of various evaluations, rather than rely on an established authority. For industries and organizations related to commercial pursuits, in particular, it is most effective to establish their own codes for ethical conduct, rather than rely on governmental regulations. At the same time, it is important to have a confirmation function to evaluate how goals set by the outside are being implemented. Aiming at establishing a framework for the Internet medical usage, the Japan Internet Medical Association (JIMA) was founded in 1998 by medical professionals, lawyers, researchers, consumer representatives, patients and their families. We propose a system that would combine feedback from users, who would take on the role of evaluators of the implementation of an ethical code, with a displayed mark that verifies the identity of the Web site. Objective evaluation of information is needed to ensure that users have the power to make choices. Medical experts or patient and family groups would assist in this task. The development of medical care will be promoted through patients and physicians' working together in the accumulation of shared resources for good medical care information. Birth injury, or birth trauma, is a common form of medical malpractice. It is also a very traumatic one, causing many families to suffer silently rather than seek out legal council. Birth injuries occur when a fetus is hurt during the labor and delivery process. It is estimated that approximately 6 injuries occur out of every 1,000 live births each year in the United States. In the state of Oregon, many of the birth injuries reported each year are the result of preventable accidents such as a baby slipping out of a health practitioners grip or rolling from a hospital bassinet. The evidence adduced at trial fell primarily from the lips of a galaxy of medical experts called by both sides - surgeons with a specialty in bariatric surgery; doctors whose specialty was infectious diseases, gastroenterology, interventional radiology, internal medicine, nutrition and anatomical and clinical pathology. Testimony was also elicited from a radiologic technologist and a witness who had earned a PhD degree in clinical nutrition. You have a dental problem, such as tooth decay, that isn't correctly diagnosed by your dentist, meaning you need further treatment as a result of their negligence. Do you know what the difference between a rogue dentist and a negligent dentist is? Strictly, a 'rogue' dentist is not a dentist at all but is practising dentistry without the qualification, licence or registration to practice that the law requires, whilst a negligent dentist can be any dentist (rogue or real) who provides inadequate treatment. A 'rogue' dentist is in breach of professional ethics, regulations and potentially the criminal law whilst a negligent dentist is liable to an individual patient for the harm that their inadequate treatment has caused. This article reports the results of a study of anesthesiologists to assess their concerns regarding medical malpractice liability risk. Specifically, it explored whether their fears stem more from being named as a party to a suit or from the financial impact of damage awards. A large majority voiced concern about potential inclusion in the National Practitioner Data Bank (83%) and their rankings on online physician-grading sites (85%). The Appellate Court stated that the element of justifiable reliance is satisfied if the plaintiff relies upon the hospital to provide complete emergency room care, rather than upon a specific physician. In the case it was deciding, the Appellate Court stated that the plaintiff's mother was seeking emergency care from the hospital itself; the plaintiff's mother did not choose to be treated specifically by the defendant emergency room physician, who was simply the attending physician in the emergency room that day (neither party chose the other, and it was the hospital that chose the defendant physician to treat the plaintiff's mother); the plaintiff's mother did not live in the area and was simply taken to the defendant hospital as a result of its proximity to the location where her respiratory emergency occurred; the defendant hospital holds itself out as a provider of general emergency care; the plaintiff's mother had no way to know or to choose who would render her care (she was in respiratory distress and could not speak); and, the plaintiff's mother could not have known that the people rendering care to her were not employees of the defendant hospital. The Appellate Court held that it was the province of the jury to resolve this question of fact, which it properly did in the plaintiff's favor. 3077 West Jefferson St., Ste. 207 - Joliet, IL 60435 Nelsons is 'very impressive in clinical negligence', and has a specialist birth and catastrophic injury service. In the UK, does the General Medical Council require physicians to report criminal convictions and is this open to the public? What about malpractice issues? I live in the U.S. and in my state (requirements may vary by state) physicians are required to report criminal convictions, malpractice, etc and this is posted online for the public to access. The problem is physicians who are convicted of crimes (like my former psychiatrist) don't always report it, so I'm not sure how effective it is in practice. There is no absolute right to privacy for physicians, at least not in my state.
